ND Caregivers Support Group Meeting-November 2024
November ND Caregivers Support Group
Questions to Ponder When Support Our Members During the Holidays:
Questions About Comfort and Environment:
What changes to the usual environment or routines would help make the holiday season feel more comfortable for you?
Are there any sensory issues I should be aware of (e.g., bright lights, loud noises, certain smells) that we can adjust to make the holidays more enjoyable for you?
Would you prefer quieter spaces or designated areas to retreat to if things get too overwhelming?
Is there any way we can adjust the decorations, lighting, or even the type of music to help create a more calming atmosphere?
Questions About Activities and Schedules:
What kind of activities would you most enjoy during the holidays? Are there specific ones that help you feel connected or relaxed?
How can we best accommodate your preferences around holiday meals or social events to ensure you feel included without stress?
Would you like to help plan or lead any activities for the family? What kind of traditions or routines would make you feel happy and included?
How do you feel about holiday parties or gatherings? Would you prefer smaller groups or perhaps more one-on-one time with family?
Questions About Social Interaction:
How can we make social interactions more manageable for you, especially if there are a lot of people around?
Are there certain conversations or topics that you prefer to avoid during holiday gatherings to keep the atmosphere more enjoyable for you?
Would it help if we communicated in a specific way (e.g., clearer or with more pauses) to make sure you feel comfortable?
Do you need any support in handling overwhelming emotions or social dynamics during the holidays, and what would that support look like for you?
Questions About Self-Care and Boundaries:
What can we do to make sure you’re able to take care of yourself during the holidays, whether that’s through breaks, personal space, or other forms of support?
Would you prefer to set some boundaries around the holiday season, such as how much time is spent socializing or the amount of planning required?
How can we ensure that your needs are met in a way that feels respectful and supportive, especially when the holidays are busy or chaotic?
Questions About Gifts and Celebrations:
Would you like any specific items or experiences as gifts, or would you prefer not to exchange gifts?
How do you feel about the overall expectations of the holiday season (e.g., gift-giving, big celebrations), and are there ways we can make this less stressful for you?
Are there any holiday traditions (food, games, or family rituals) that you would like to continue or change this year?
Questions About Support and Help:
Is there anything I can do to help take some of the holiday preparation or responsibility off your plate?
Would it help if we arranged extra support, like a trusted friend or family member, to assist during particularly overwhelming times?
